Montgomery County’s State’s Attorney’s Office is opening its fourth annual Speak Up, Save a Life Student PSA Video Contest on Monday, September 28, offering local middle and high school students the chance to win thousands of dollars while raising awareness about drug misuse and the dangers of fentanyl and other synthetic compounds.
The contest is open to students in grades 6 through 12 who live in or attend school in Montgomery County. Participants are asked to create an original public service announcement video focused on the risks associated with drug misuse, fentanyl and other synthetic substances. MCPS students who submit a video can earn 10 Student Service Learning (SSL) hours.
This year’s top prize is $5,000, with $3,000 awarded for second place and $1,000 for third place. An additional $1,000 Fan Favorite prize will be determined by a vote of MCPS students, and multiple honorable mention winners will also receive cash prizes.
The contest was created in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools, the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Montgomery Goes Purple, MCC-PTA and The Magnolia Companies. Prize money is being provided with support from The Magnolia Companies and The Good Samaritan Fund.
Entries will be accepted through 11:59pm on November 30. Winners will be announced during the Save a Student Summit on December 19 at Walter Johnson High School.
