Construction is now underway on Crown Farm Park in Gaithersburg, with the new neighborhood park anticipated to open in April 2027.
The park is being developed on a 2.99-acre parcel at the corner of Decoverly Dr and Steinbeck Ave in the Crown community. While the overall property encompasses nearly three acres, easements and stream valley buffers reduce the usable park area to approximately 1.5 acres.
Plans include an ADA-accessible playground, seating areas, walking paths, open green space and extensive new landscaping. More than 50 trees and 650 shrubs are expected to be planted throughout the property.
The park will also highlight the history of the land and the England-Crown family farm that once occupied the property. Historical signage will include maps and photographs of the former farm structures while sharing the story and local significance of the property.
One of the site’s most significant historic features will remain a centerpiece of the park. The 19th century Corn Crib Barn, the oldest surviving structure from the former England-Crown Farm, was previously restored and will be incorporated into the park.
The property was once part of the 175-acre England-Crown Farm, one of the last working farms in Gaithersburg before the land was annexed into the city in 2006. The former farmland has since been transformed into the Crown community, which includes thousands of residences along with restaurants, retail, offices and the future Crown High School.
Other remnants of the historic farmstead include two silos, a concrete block garage with an attached storage shed, a corrugated metal grain bin and several privately owned historic structures, including a 19th century Manor House, smokehouse and early log house. The structures have been designated as historic resources by the City of Gaithersburg.
The City completed the park’s design earlier this year, with construction originally scheduled to begin in August. Work is now underway, and the current anticipated opening is April 2027.
