Siriwan Thai’s Gaithersburg location is getting more than a renovation. After 10 years, the restaurant has announced that it will begin a new chapter as Mai Khao.
The restaurant, located at 12115 Darnestown Rd in The Shops at Potomac Valley shopping center, recently closed temporarily for renovations. As we reported earlier this month, a representative from Siriwan’s Germantown location told us the Gaithersburg restaurant was expected to remain closed for approximately three or four months.
Mai Khao is inspired by Mai Khao Beach in Thailand and is being described as a more elevated take on authentic Thai cuisine, built around the theme “Bold Flavors, Mindful Moments.”
The new concept will feature a modern Thai tropical atmosphere and an updated menu highlighting regional Thai flavors. According to the restaurant, diners can expect bold Southern Thai dishes, herbal curries and refined Central Thai classics, along with refreshed signature dishes. Mai Khao will also introduce a new beverage program featuring handcrafted signature mocktails and a boutique wine list designed to pair with the food.
“For the past 10 years, Siriwan Thai has had the absolute honor of serving you, sharing meals, celebrating milestones, and being a part of this wonderful neighborhood,” the restaurant announced. “Every smile, every dish, and every visit from you has meant the world to us.”
The existing Siriwan Thai social media page will transition to Mai Khao, where the restaurant plans to share renovation progress, menu previews and eventually a grand opening announcement. An exact opening date for Mai Khao has not yet been announced.
Siriwan’s two other Montgomery County locations remain open. Siriwan 4 Sectors Thai is located at 20640 Seneca Meadows Pkwy in Germantown, and its Silver Spring location is at 736 Cloverly St in Cloverly.
