Permanent signage went up Monday at the future VEG ER for Pets location in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood, another sign of progress for the emergency veterinary hospital taking over a portion of the former Party City space.
An official opening date has not been announced, but based on the current progress, the location appears as though it could open by the end of the year.
VEG ER for Pets, also known as Veterinary Emergency Group, signed on earlier this year to take over the largest portion of the former Party City at Kentlands Market Square. Party City closed at the beginning of 2025, and its large retail space has since been subdivided into three separate storefronts.
Wonder, a modern food hall concept, opened in one of the spaces this past summer. STRONG Pilates is set to occupy the remaining storefront, joining Wonder and VEG ER for Pets in the subdivided space.
The location will mark the first Montgomery County outpost for VEG ER for Pets, a growing network of emergency-only veterinary hospitals known for an approach that keeps pet owners involved throughout the treatment process.
Unlike traditional veterinary clinics, VEG hospitals feature an open floor plan that allows owners to remain with their pets during exams, procedures and even surgery.
VEG facilities are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no appointment required. Pet owners can walk in at any time or call ahead to speak directly with a veterinarian. The hospitals treat dogs, cats and exotic pets, including birds, reptiles, rabbits and ferrets.
The company also emphasizes immediate triage, with medical staff often beginning evaluation and care as soon as a pet arrives, sometimes before intake paperwork is completed. We’ll provide an update when an opening date is announced.
