Maryland Insurance Agent Pleads Guilty to Stealing More Than $100,000 in Life Insurance Commissions

Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown announced that Baltimore County insurance agent Gregory A. Maslow, 72, of Owings Mills, pleaded guilty to stealing more than $100,000 in commissions through a four-year life insurance fraud scheme.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, Maslow carried out the scheme from May 2015 through May 2019, submitting more than 75 life insurance applications using the identities of other insurance agents and customers. In some cases, applications were submitted without the applicants’ knowledge or permission.

Prosecutors said Maslow collected commissions intended for other agents before transferring the money to accounts he controlled. He later stopped paying premiums on the policies, causing them to lapse.

Maslow pleaded guilty October 2 to a theft scheme of more than $100,000. Under a binding plea agreement, he will serve 30 days of incarceration followed by five years of supervised probation and will be required to pay restitution and consent to the revocation of his insurance producer’s license. Sentencing is scheduled for November 23.
