$500K Renovation Underway for New Restaurant in Bethesda

A new Mediterranean and Persian restaurant, Silk Route, is in the works at 4839 Del Ray Ave. in downtown Bethesda, the former home of longtime Mexican restaurant Tia Queta. A permit was recently issued for a $500,000 renovation of the space.

The 3,472 SF building was recently sold to Nimi Chhina LLC, headed by Mantej Chhina, for $2.1 million, according to Maryland Newsletters. Chhina was based in Dover, Delaware.

Tia Queta closed earlier this year after more than four decades in Bethesda. The restaurant opened around 1980 and became a longtime fixture in the community, known for its traditional Mexican cuisine and welcoming atmosphere. Over the years, it served generations of diners and became a gathering place for family celebrations, casual meals and longtime regulars.

Silk Route will bring Mediterranean and Persian cuisine to the space. Additional details about the restaurant and its menu have not yet been announced. A timetable for Silk Route’s opening is not yet available.
