Historic Cabin John Bridge to Close for Inspection and Repairs November 7

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the one-lane Cabin John Bridge, also known as the Union Arch Bridge, on MacArthur Boulevard in Cabin John on Saturday, November 7, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for its annual inspection and minor repairs. The rain date is Sunday, November 8.

The inspection will include hands-on evaluations of structural components, with crews checking for concrete cracking, steel corrosion, deterioration, and movement in bearings and joints. Minor repairs will also be completed to address early signs of wear.

The historic stone-masonry arch bridge, built in 1864, carries pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic along MacArthur Boulevard.

During the closure, drivers will be detoured using Wilson Lane to River Road and Seven Locks Road to River Road. Motorists should plan for alternate routes and potential delays.

The work is being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, not the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT).
