The City of Gaithersburg officially opened a new inclusive playground at Casey Community Center on Thursday, October 15, with a celebration marking the completion of the $275,000 project.
Designed for children ages 2 to 12 and of all abilities, the new playground replaces outdated equipment with a modern, accessible play space. Features include smooth rubber surfacing, a ramped entrance, an accessible merry-go-round, quiet nooks, a communication board, and a fully gated layout.
“This new playground represents an exciting step forward for Casey Community Center,” said Kegan Kim, Recreation Services division chief. “By replacing the outdated equipment with a modern, inclusive play space, we are creating an environment that supports our preschool programs, welcomes families who visit the farmers market, and offers a fun and engaging place for children throughout the community.”
The $275,000 project was funded in part by a $68,750 Program Open Space grant. “This investment promotes active play, social connection, and outdoor exploration for children of all ages and abilities, ensuring that Casey Community Center continues to thrive as a vibrant gathering place for our community,” Kim said.
