Montgomery County native Lisa Loeb was a big winner on Celebrity Wheel of Fortune this past week, dominating the game and earning nearly $300,000 for charity.
Loeb competed on Season 7, Episode 3 of the ABC game show alongside Kimberly Perry and Ally Brooke. Her winnings benefited SCOPE (Summer Camp Opportunities Promote Education), an organization that provides funding to help children from under-resourced communities attend overnight summer camps.“Spoiler alert… I won big!” Loeb wrote following the episode, adding that she was excited to support SCOPE and its mission.
Loeb was born in Bethesda on March 11, 1968, while her father was completing medical training in the area. Her family moved to Dallas, Texas, when she was still very young, but Loeb has previously spoken about maintaining a connection to Montgomery County because of her early years here.
During a 2017 interview with WTOP ahead of a performance with Paula Cole at AMP by Strathmore at Pike & Rose, Loeb discussed her Bethesda beginnings. “My dad’s a doctor and he was doing some training there in Bethesda, so that’s where I was born,” Loeb said. “I have a vague memory of allergies and cherry blossoms from D.C. but I was like 2 years old. But I feel a connection to it, I can’t help it. That’s where I was born!”
Loeb is a Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1990s. Her breakout hit, “Stay (I Missed You),” which appeared in the 1994 film Reality Bites, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 while Loeb was still unsigned to a record label. She went on to release gold-certified albums Tails and Firecracker and songs including “Do You Sleep?” and “I Do.”
Loeb later found success in children’s music, winning the Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album in 2018 for Feel What U Feel. Her career has also included television and film work, an eyewear line, and broadcasting, including work as a host on SiriusXM.
Loeb’s Celebrity Wheel of Fortune episode is available to stream on Hulu.
