Metro will open Metrorail two hours early on Sunday, Oct. 25 to accommodate runners and spectators attending the 51st Marine Corps Marathon.
Stations will open at 5am Sunday, with normal Sunday frequencies throughout the day. Runners can take Metro to Pentagon for access to the Runners Village and race starting line. Only runners will be permitted at the start and finish lines this year.
Spectators can use Smithsonian, Crystal City, L’Enfant Plaza and Arlington Cemetery stations to reach viewing areas along the course. Arlington Cemetery Station is scheduled to open at approximately 9am. The Family Link Up Zone, where spectators can meet runners after the race, will be located near Rosslyn. For packet pickup at the National Building Museum, runners can use Judiciary Sq or Gallery Place.
Metro will also provide service for Saturday’s MCM 8K. Stations will open at the normal Saturday time of 6am on Oct. 24, with increased capacity. Smithsonian and Federal Triangle are the closest stations to the 8K starting area, though the starting line is approximately one mile from either station.
On both Saturday and Sunday, Red Line trains will operate every six minutes until 9:30pm and every 10 minutes afterward. Green and Yellow Line trains will operate every eight minutes throughout the day. Blue, Orange and Silver Line trains will operate every 12 minutes until 9:30pm and every 15 minutes afterward.
In the downtown core, combined service will result in trains arriving approximately every four minutes on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines between Rosslyn and Stadium-Armory and on the Green and Yellow lines between Mt. Vernon Sq and L’Enfant Plaza.
Metrobus service will also be significantly impacted Sunday because of the marathon and associated road closures.
All Metrobus service normally operating to and from the Pentagon will be diverted to Pentagon City from 2:30am until 7pm. Although the Pentagon Transit Center is expected to reopen at 4pm, bus detours will remain in effect through 7pm.
Bus service at the Rosslyn Bus Terminal will be temporarily relocated to North Oak St between Wilson Blvd and North 18th St from 2:30am until approximately 7pm for the Marathon Finish Festival. Metrobus service at Crystal City will also be relocated to Pentagon City during that period.
Road closures across Virginia and Washington, DC will result in additional detours and turnbacks generally between 7am and 4pm, with some impacts potentially continuing through 7pm. Routes expected to be affected include A11, A1X, A27, A40, A58, A66, A76, D10, D1X, D30, D32, D40, D4X, D44, D50, D60, D6X, D74, D80, F44 and F62.
Metrorail fares will range from $2.25 to $2.50 for a one-way trip during the weekend.
