Adventist HealthCare Acquires Longtime Montgomery County Orthopedic Practice

Gaithersburg-based Adventist HealthCare has acquired Shady Grove Orthopaedics, a longtime Montgomery County orthopedic practice with locations in Rockville and Germantown.

Practice operations transitioned to Adventist HealthCare on October 3, with Shady Grove Orthopaedics’ eight physicians and other team members becoming Adventist HealthCare employees.

Shady Grove Orthopaedics has served Montgomery County since 1972, providing specialized care for bone, joint and muscle injuries. The practice offers orthopedic services as well as physical therapy.

The organizations already have a longstanding relationship, with Shady Grove Orthopaedics working closely with Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center on orthopedic surgical care. According to Adventist HealthCare, the acquisition is intended to further integrate and coordinate orthopedic care for patients in the community.

“This is an exciting milestone and step forward for Adventist HealthCare,” said Dr. Ryan Tyner, president of Physician Enterprise with Adventist HealthCare. “We have long provided exceptional orthopedic surgical care in our hospitals, but now with an integrated outpatient practice that offers the full range of orthopedic care and support services such as physical therapy, Adventist HealthCare can now fully and seamlessly provide the orthopedic care the community needs.”

The acquisition adds Shady Grove Orthopaedics to Adventist HealthCare’s network of community physicians and practices offering primary and specialty care at more than 20 locations across Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

It also continues a year of expansion for the healthcare system. Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center opened its new Horizon Tower in June. Earlier this year, Shady Grove Medical Center, White Oak Medical Center and Fort Washington Medical Center each received an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group.
