Shepherd’s Table Breaks Ground on New Reflection Pavilion

Shepherd’s Table and Progress Place held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, October 26, for the Reflection Pavilion, a new outdoor space at Progress Place in downtown Silver Spring designed to provide an area for reflection, connection, and relaxation.

The ceremony brought together local and state officials, including Maryland State Delegate Lorig Charkoudian and Montgomery County Councilmember Kate Stewart, along with community partners and supporters to mark the beginning of construction.

The Reflection Pavilion is intended to provide a welcoming outdoor environment for individuals experiencing food insecurity, homelessness, and poverty. The space will complement existing programs and services at Progress Place, where Shepherd’s Table provides daily meals and additional support to community members in need.

“The Reflection Pavilion embodies what we believe is possible when a community comes together with compassion and a shared commitment to caring for one another,” said Jan Weetjens, Executive Director of Shepherd’s Table. “At Shepherd’s Table, we know that lasting well-being is about more than meeting immediate needs; it’s about creating spaces where every person feels welcome, valued, and treated with dignity.”

The project represents an additional effort to expand supportive spaces at Progress Place, providing visitors with an outdoor area to gather, rest, and connect with others.
