Tasting Table has named Jimmy’s Famous Seafood in Baltimore its pick for the best crab cake in Maryland as part of its new list highlighting the “hands down best crab cakes in every state.” A video of the crab cake can be seen below.
For the list, Tasting Table said it focused on restaurants that consistently receive strong reviews for their crab cakes, while also considering factors such as fresh seafood sourcing, longevity, local popularity, awards, national recognition, and overall dining experience.
Maryland presented what the publication called “perhaps the most contentious choice” on the list, given the state’s reputation for crab cakes. Ultimately, Tasting Table selected Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, pointing to the restaurant’s long history and national recognition.
The publication praised Jimmy’s family recipe and described its crab cakes as packed with crab and worthy of their reputation. Located at 6526 Holabird Avenue in Baltimore, Jimmy’s Famous Seafood dates back to 1974, when it was founded by the late Dimitrios “Jimmy” Minadakis. The restaurant became known for its crab cakes and other Maryland seafood dishes and is now operated by his sons. The business has grown beyond its Baltimore restaurant, shipping its food to customers across the country.
This isn’t the first time Jimmy’s has received national recognition for its crab cakes. Food & Wine previously gave the restaurant first place on its list of the best crab cakes in the United States.
