Celebration of Life Announced for Longtime Bethesda Crab House Employee Yen Lee

Bethesda Crab House has announced plans for a celebration of life honoring longtime employee Yen Lee, who passed away on October 17 at the age of 55.

The celebration will take place Friday, November 6, from 6pm-10pm at the Knights of Columbus Bethesda #2797, located at 5417 W. Cedar Lane in Bethesda. Parking will be available behind the building.

Lee spent more than 35 years working at Bethesda Crab House, where he served customers, cooked, and worked alongside the Vechery family. Over the decades, he became a familiar face to generations of customers at the longtime Bethesda restaurant.

Following his passing, Bethesda Crab House remembered Lee for his humor, love of sports, fishing stories, restaurant recommendations, and the relationships he built with customers and coworkers.

Acclaimed chef José Andrés also shared a tribute to Lee, whom he described as a friend and “Mr. crab expert.” Andrés said he had called Lee while on his way to Bethesda Crab House and learned from the restaurant that Lee had passed away.

Bethesda Crab House, which was established in 1961, previously encouraged customers and community members to share their favorite memories, jokes, and stories about Lee to be passed along to his family.
