Gaithersburg Selects Alyssa Todaro Krumlauf to Fill Anticipated City Council Vacancy

The Gaithersburg City Council has selected Alyssa Todaro Krumlauf to fill the council vacancy expected to be created if Council Member Lisa Henderson becomes mayor.

The move is contingent on current Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman being elected to the Montgomery County Council on November 3. If that occurs, Henderson is expected to become mayor, creating the City Council vacancy that Krumlauf has been selected to fill.

Pending the election outcome, Krumlauf is scheduled to be sworn in during a special session on Monday, November 9. She would serve through the next City of Gaithersburg election in November 2027.

Krumlauf, a Woodland Hills resident, is senior director for Prospective Studies, a patient-centered research consultancy, where she helps shape scientific strategy and leads multidisciplinary teams.

She has served on the Gaithersburg Youth Enrichment Committee since 2021 and has chaired the committee since 2025. Krumlauf is also a member of the University of Maryland Alumni Leadership Council and previously served as president of the UMD School of Public Health Alumni Network.

She holds a Ph.D. in public health from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science degree in biobehavioral health from Penn State.

In her application for the council position, Krumlauf identified safety, quality of life and creating a sense of belonging for all residents as her top priorities.

“I’m thrilled and deeply honored to have been selected to serve on the Gaithersburg City Council,” Krumlauf said. “Gaithersburg is where my husband and I are raising our daughter, surrounded by neighbors-turned-family, and where we’ve put down roots.”

She also described following Henderson on the council as particularly meaningful and said she was humbled by the responsibility of carrying Henderson’s legacy forward.

Mayor Jud Ashman thanked those who applied for the position, saying the applicants’ “talent, dedication, and commitment to public service made this a difficult decision.”

“We are excited to welcome Alyssa to the Council and are confident she will be a strong partner in serving the Gaithersburg community in the year ahead,” Ashman said.
