Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe will permanently close this Sunday, November 1, ending an eight-year run for the brewery located just outside Baltimore.
The brewery announced its closure on October 1, inviting customers to visit one final time before shutting its doors. Since opening in August 2018, the location has welcomed more than two million visitors and produced over 700 different beers.
Located at 5001 Washington Boulevard, the brewery opened following an approximately $90 million investment by Guinness parent company Diageo. The facility originally included brewing operations, a taproom, restaurant offerings, a beer garden, tours, and a retail store.
In 2023, Diageo discontinued the site’s larger beer production operation, although the taproom, experimental brewery, and visitor experience remained open.
According to The Baltimore Sun, the decision to close followed a review of the operation and its long-term business priorities, with rising costs and changing consumer demand among the reported factors. Guinness has thanked its employees and customers for their support over the years and said its involvement with Baltimore-area organizations will continue beyond the closure.
