Daylight Saving Time comes to an end this weekend, giving residents an extra hour overnight while also bringing a reminder from Montgomery County to check smoke alarms.
At 2am on Sunday, November 1, clocks will be turned back one hour to 1am as the region returns to standard time.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service is encouraging residents to use the seasonal time change as an opportunity to test smoke alarms and replace batteries as needed. Working smoke alarms can provide critical early warning during a fire and give residents additional time to safely escape.
Residents are also encouraged to replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of a home, inside each bedroom and outside sleeping areas.
The time change also means sunset will arrive approximately an hour earlier beginning Sunday evening.
