The contents of the former Shoppers grocery store on Mateny Road in Germantown are headed to auction, nearly a year after the longtime supermarket closed its doors.
According to the auction listing, essentially the entire store is being offered for sale, including refrigerated and frozen food cases, walk-in coolers and freezers, meat and deli equipment, bakery ovens, checkout lanes, self-checkout machines, shelving and other equipment used throughout the supermarket.
The auction company describes the location as a Shoppers store that closed after nearly 30 years in Germantown. Bidding is scheduled to begin closing Tuesday, November 17 at 10am, with lots closing one at a time.
Among the equipment being auctioned are more than 90 Zero Zone frozen food doors, Hussmann and Hillphoenix refrigerated cases, floral coolers, a salad bar and deli service cases. Seven compressor racks that powered the store’s refrigeration system are also included, along with several large walk-in units, including a four-room refrigerated box and a 46-foot beer cooler.
Equipment from the store’s individual departments is also being sold. The former meat department includes Hobart equipment such as an automatic wrapper, mixer-grinder, meat saw and wrapping stations. The hot foods area includes two double-stack rotisserie ovens and a TurboChef rapid-cook oven, while the bakery equipment includes two Baxter roll-in rack ovens, proofers and a 250-quart Hobart spiral mixer.
The front end of the former supermarket is represented in the auction as well, with Killion checkout lanes, four NCR self-checkout stations and NCR scanners. Other lots include electric shopping carts, a pallet jack, pallet racking, gondola shelving, a natural gas generator and a cardboard baler.
Shoppers closed the Germantown location in November 2025 after operating in the community for decades. In October 2025, we reported that employees had been informed of the upcoming closure in a letter from the company. Shoppers said at the time that the decision followed “a careful evaluation of store performance and operational standards,” with employees’ final day of work scheduled for on or before November 15, 2025. The company thanked employees for their years of service and said human resources and union representatives would assist affected workers during the transition.
As of now, we are not aware of a new tenant having signed on to take over the former Shoppers space. The full auction can be seen here.
