Barrio Burrito Bar appears to be getting close to opening its first Montgomery County location, with construction having progressed significantly at the upcoming Silver Spring restaurant.
The new Barrio Burrito Bar will be located at 2255 Bel Pre Rd, Space 20, in the Plaza Del Mercado shopping center. The restaurant is taking over the former T-Mobile space between Kicks Karate and Total Image Salon.
We first reported on plans for the restaurant nearly two years ago, and in February reported that construction was set to begin. Work has progressed considerably since then, and the location now appears to be nearing completion. An official opening date has not yet been announced.
The Silver Spring restaurant will be Barrio Burrito Bar’s first location in Montgomery County and second in Maryland. A Baltimore-area location opened while the Montgomery County location was in development.
Barrio Burrito Bar was founded in Toronto in 2005 under the name barBURRITO Fresh Mexican Grill and has since grown into Canada’s largest Mexican food franchise, with more than 340 locations. The company expanded into the United States in 2020 as BURRITOBAR before rebranding as Barrio Burrito Bar in 2024. The company has announced plans to eventually open more than 500 locations across the U.S.
The menu features burritos, bowls, tacos, quesadillas and fries, along with options including bang bang shrimp, jerk chicken and falafel. We’ll provide an update when an opening date is announced.
