Commas Food Hall Expands into Breakfast After One Year of Operation, Welcoming Two New Vendors this Fall

Commas Food Hall is heading into its second year with two new vendors and a new reason for Silver Spring residents to visit earlier in the day.

Kellem Coffee, an Ethiopian cafe, soft opened during Commas’ first anniversary celebration this fall. Nips Juice House, a familiar local name, is set to follow with its new Commas location in the next few weeks. Rounding out

Together, these additions mark Commas’ first step into the breakfast space, expanding the food hall at Ellsworth Place beyond its lunch, dinner and event offerings. The new lineup will serve downtown commuters, parents, shoppers and weekend visitors looking for an array of global breakfast and beverage options under one roof.

Ethiopian Coffee and East African Breakfast at Kellem Coffee

Kellem Coffee introduces guests to Ethiopian coffee traditions and East African morning fare in a casual cafe setting.

Its coffee is uniquely prepared using the traditional jebena brewing method with beans sourced from Ethiopia’s highlands. Guests can explore East African staples including chechebsa, a spiced flatbread dish; ful, a seasoned fava bean dish commonly served for breakfast; and samosas. The vendor’s menu is complimented with tea, hot chocolate and pastries.

Kellem Coffee opens every day at 8:00 a.m., operating until 3:00 p.m. on Sundays, 4:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday and 5:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Nips Juice House Returns to Silver Spring

A familiar Silver Spring favorite is making a comeback, bringing its colorful, wellness-focused menu to Commas later this fall. Founded by husband-and-wife team Chris and Chiara Donovan, Nips Juice House is known for cold-pressed and made-to-order juices, smoothies, acai and pitaya bowls and wellness shots.

The locally owned business previously operated in The Cameron apartment building for five years, building a loyal following before closing that location in August. Its move to Commas will give longtime customers a new place to visit while introducing the concept to Ellsworth Place shoppers and food hall guests.

The vendor will be open at 8:00 a.m. every morning as well.

A New Chapter for Commas Food Hall

The launches coincide with Commas Food Hall’s first anniversary, which it celebrated with a grand reopening Sept. 26. The event marked Kellem Coffee’s soft opening, previewed Nips Juice House and welcomed back two returning favorites: Tokoa Cheesesteaks, which reopened with an updated menu, and Tato’s, known for loaded baked potatoes, fries and creative takes on classic comfort food.

Commas continues to expand beyond dining with community events such as karaoke, dance socials, Plant Bingo, sip-and-paint classes, cocktail classes, wellness markets and floral arrangement classes.
