A Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken & Wings location in Frederick is preparing to make a major change, with the restaurant announcing that its Spectrum Drive location will soon transition into a new seafood concept called Crab Shack.
Hangry Joe’s announced Monday that the restaurant at 5595 Spectrum Drive will have its final day under the Hangry Joe’s name on Sunday. After that, the location will transition into Crab Shack, which is being promoted as a seafood restaurant specializing in fresh seafood boils.
Images shared with the announcement show a Crab Shack logo that states the restaurant was established in 1978 and a menu featuring seafood boils with options including shrimp, clams, mussels and crawfish, along with different spice levels.
The change will not mark the end of Hangry Joe’s in Frederick. The restaurant’s second Frederick location at 7820 Wormans Mill Road in Clemson Corner will remain open.
Hangry Joe’s first announced plans for the Spectrum Drive restaurant in late 2022, taking over the former Baja Fresh space near Francis Scott Key Mall. Before that location opened, plans were announced for another Frederick restaurant at Wormans Mill Road, giving the Nashville-style hot chicken chain two locations in the city.
The Wormans Mill restaurant opened in 2023 and remains listed among Hangry Joe’s Maryland locations. Hangry Joe’s specializes in Nashville-style hot chicken, with a menu centered around chicken sandwiches, wings, tenders and varying spice levels.
An opening date for Crab Shack has not yet been announced. We’ll provide an update when additional information becomes available.
