A renovated baseball field at Isreal Park in Rockville will become home to the new Pint Isreal Instructional Baseball League in spring 2027, honoring a former Negro League baseball player and longtime Lincoln Park resident.
The City of Rockville plans to relocate its existing instructional T-ball and coach-pitch programs to the renovated field and relaunch them under the new league name.
Clarence “Pint” Isreal grew up in Rockville and played professional baseball for the Newark Eagles and Homestead Grays, helping the Eagles win the 1946 Negro World Series. He later coached and mentored local youth and co-founded the Black Angels Boys Club. The city named Isreal Park in his honor in 1988.
City staff are working with Isreal’s family and Lincoln Park residents to develop the league’s identity and connect the youth baseball program with the community.
Renovations scheduled for this fall include leveling the infield using laser-guided equipment, adding new infield material and installing sod to reshape the infield arc. The work is expected to take one to two weeks, but the field will remain closed for the rest of the fall to allow the new sod to establish.
