Floriana, an Italian restaurant that has operated in Washington, D.C., since 1979, has announced plans to close its longtime Dupont Circle location at the end of the year and relocate to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

The restaurant, located at 1602 17th Street NW, will hold its final day of service on December 31, 2026, ending 47 years in Washington, D.C. “Thank you for 47 years, DC,” the restaurant shared in its announcement. “After nearly five decades in Washington, DC, we’re preparing to say goodbye to our longtime home on 17th Street as we look ahead to a new chapter in Old Town Alexandria, VA.”

Floriana is known for its Northern Italian cuisine, featuring handmade pasta, risotto, seafood and meat dishes. Its menu includes lobster linguini, bolognese, lasagna, mushroom risotto, branzino and filet mignon.

In its farewell announcement, the restaurant reflected on nearly five decades of serving the community, including anniversaries, first dates, Pride celebrations and other neighborhood traditions.

The restaurant plans to reopen in Old Town Alexandria at a location less than a mile from the King Street-Old Town Metro station. An exact address and opening date have not yet been announced.

Floriana also has a location in Wilmington, North Carolina, with another planned for Huntsville, Alabama.
