City of Gaithersburg Continues Indoor Mask Requirement in Public Facilities

Per the City of Gaithersburg:

Requirement continues for visitors over the age of two to wear masks and physical distance while in City facilities.
Post Date:10/29/2021
Although Montgomery County lifted the indoor masking requirement in public spaces as of October 28, 2021, City Manager Tanisha Briley announced that the City of Gaithersburg will continue its requirement for all visitors over the age of two to wear masks and physical distance at all times while in public spaces of City of Gaithersburg facilities, regardless of vaccination status. All individuals are strongly encouraged to wear masks outdoors as well when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Additional restrictions are in place for City of Gaithersburg employees. Masks are required in all indoor spaces unless the employee is alone in a private, enclosed space not accessible to the public. Employees must also wear masks outdoors when six feet of distance from others cannot be maintained and when riding with at least one other person in a City vehicle or on motorized City equipment.

“Out of an abundance of caution and with the understanding that we live and work in a diverse region with varying levels of transmission across communities, the City will maintain its current masking and distancing policies in City facilities,” said Briley. “Masking has proven very effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to do our part to reduce transmission with these requirements, and we encourage everyone to get vaccinated and to get booster doses if they qualify.”

Walk-in services continue to be available at City Hall, the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, Public Works, and the Police Station. Appointments are recommended, but not required. Physical distancing is required in all spaces. Visitors may be asked to wait outside if areas become crowded. Note that hours and staffing may be limited as many employees continue to telework. Operations at other facilities vary. Status information can be found in the Phased Service Restoration Plan and on individual program and facility pages on this website. Updates are also available on Facebook and Twitter @GburgMD.
