Help The NCCF By Hosting a Feast That Helps Youth Living in Bethesda’s Greentree Adolescent Program Explore New Cultures

Help The National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) by hosting a “Tasty Tuesday feast” that helps the youth living in the Greentree Adolescent Program (GAP) to expand their palettes and explore new cultures.

Tasty Tuesday is a program designed to keep our youth engaged during this challenging period of isolation. We come together (with safe social distancing) for an exciting meal exploring new cuisines and learning about various cultures through food. The excitement in trying a new food for the very first time with their peer group has provided a bonding experience and fostered a team atmosphere. The youth are boldly trying new flavors and enjoying learning about the culture behind the cuisine. As a group we have learned how to use chopsticks correctly; tasted a Persian dish the donor’s grandmother used to make for her when she was a child; and learned that dodgeball originated in India. Some “fan favorites” included Korean glass noodles, dumplings, Pad Thai, and Samosas.

If you would like to help serve the meal, and/or join in the cultural activity, up to 4 volunteers can participate at a safe social distance with masks and all reccomended percautions. If you would like to join us in person please reach out to Dahlia Levin ([email protected]).

Volunteer Hosts may either solicit a restaurant for an in-kind donation of the meal (nonprofit status can be provided) or may choose to support a favorite local restaurant and sponsor it themselves (see requirements below).

Requirements:

Dinner for 20 youth (individual containers preferred but will gladly accept catering/buffet style). If you would like to include staff as well, that would be much appreciated. With staff, the head count would be 25.  We can only accept food made in a commercial kitchen.

Delivery between 4:30-5:00 PM on specified Tuesday to 6301 Greentree Road Bethesda, MD 20832 Building #3 (Contact is Dahlia Levin). You pick the menu! Please be sure there is some meat/chicken/fish or other protein included. If there is a particular drink you would like to include, that would be great.

Email Dahlia ([email protected]) the menu by the Thursday before you host Tasty Tuesday; so we can prepare a fun workshop about the food/culture/country. Email Dahlia the final cost and NCCF will email you an in-kind donation receipt.
