Per MCPD:
A Bethesda woman was killed when she was struck by a flatbed truck on Thursday, August 25. At approximately 4:05 p.m., Montgomery County Police officers were called to the 5200 block of River Rd. for an adult female cyclist struck. Preliminary investigation by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) revealed that both the driver of a red 2014 Volvo D13 flatbed truck and the bicyclist were traveling east on River Rd.
The cyclist, 42-year-old Sarah Joan Langenkamp, was in the bicycle lane when the Volvo turned right into the parking lot of 5244 River Rd. and struck Langenkamp, who was run over by the Volvo. Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded, and Langenkamp was pronounced dead on scene. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Original 8/25 Report: A bicyclist was struck on eastbound River Road between the Kenwood Station shopping center and Landry Lane in Bethesda at approximately 4pm on Thursday afternoon.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) PIO Pete Piringer reports that one patient was evaluated for a traumatic injury and was not transported to a hospital, which means the collision was fatal. Some lanes are closed as of 4:55pm on Thursday as the police department is on the scene for reconstruction.
