Update on Two Water Main Breaks on Clopper Rd That Have Caused Parts of Gaithersburg and Germantown to Be Without Water

Latest update from WSSC: “Additional sections of pipe needing replacement. This is something we don’t know until we get into repairs. Water is estimated to be restored this evening. We know this is frustrating. We are working as quickly as possible 2 repair 2 large water main breaks.”
There is a WSSC water station set up at the United Church of Christ of Seneca Valley (13421 Clopper Rd, Germantown) for those affected by the water main breaks.

WSSC announced that crews were working as quickly as possible to shutdown a broken 24” water main in the 11500 blk of Clopper Rd in Gaithersburg, a little before 6pm on Tuesday evening. Since then, it has been announced that there was a second water main break on the 12400 block of Clopper Rd.

As of 10:26pm on Tuesday, all of the water had been pumped out of the first water main break and crews were digging to expose the broken pipe and make repairs. Just before 2am on Wednesday morning, WSSC announced that work would begin ASAP on second water main break.

Clopper Rd now has intermittent closures between Great Seneca Highway and Waring Station Rd because of the repairs to the two water main breaks. Per WSSC, “Noon today is when we estimate water service being restored. We appreciate your patience as we work as quickly as possible to wrap up repairs and get the water back on.
