Things To Do on Veterans Day Weekend in Montgomery Parks

Ice skating, hiking, storytelling, volunteering, and more! Discover these programs in the parks for Friday, November 11, to Sunday, November 13! Check out the list of events? Per Montgomery Parks, below:

Veterans: Montgomery Parks honors military service members past and present with Veterans Day Skate. Veterans and active duty service members, along with their families, receive free admission and skate rental on Sunday, November 13, at Cabin John Ice Rink(opens in a new tab), 12:30 to 2:30 pm, and at Wheaton Ice Arena(opens in a new tab), 3 pm to 5 pm.

Nature: Locust Grove Nature Center invites adults eighteen and older to learn to build a campfire during the Outdoor Skills Workshop: Making Fire(opens in a new tab) on Sunday, November 13, at 10 am. Registration required for each class.

During Creature Feature, Brookside Nature Center staff introduce visitors to a new animal that lives at Wheaton Regional Park. Creature Feature (opens in a new tab)on Saturday, November 12, 2:30 pm to 3 pm, is a free program, but registration is required.

Storytime: Bring the kids to Brookside Gardens’ free Drag Story Hour(opens in a new tab) on Saturday, November 12, at 11 am. Please note new program guidelines: Advanced registration for children required. Each child may be accompanied by two adults. Adults without children are not permitted.

Volunteers: We have four volunteer opportunities this weekend. Students looking for Student Service Learning (SSL) hours can get artsy and help Paint a Storm Drain Mural(opens in a new tab) at Spencerville Local Park on Saturday, November 12, 11 am to 2 pm. Please sign up.

Also on Saturday, November 12, there are three Weed Warrior events. Learn to identify nonnative and invasive species and remove them to create healthier environments for native plants and wildlife in our parks. Weed Warrior workdays are at Cabin John Stream Valley Park(opens in a new tab), 9 am to 11 am; Maydale Conservation Park(opens in a new tab), 10 am to 11:30 am; and Capital Crescent Trail(opens in a new tab), 1 pm to 3 pm.
