23-Year-Old Man Arrested and Charged with Theft of Catalytic Converters

Per MCPD: Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Patrol Services have arrested and charged 23-year-old Thomas Tabbs, of Harrisburg, PA, with the theft of two catalytic converters that were stolen on Monday, February 20, 2023, in the 10500 block of Montrose Ave. in Bethesda.

At approximately 6:33 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the location for the report of a theft of vehicle parts.

While responding to this call for service, officers observed a dark blue Volkswagen Touareg traveling northbound on Tuckerman Lane. Officers determined that the Volkswagen matched the description of the suspect’s vehicle. Officers followed the Volkswagen and initiated a traffic stop in the area of Tuckerman Lane and Rockville Pike.  A search of the Volkswagen revealed items of evidentiary value that connected Tabbs to the crime.

Officers also determined that Tabbs had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Montgomery County. Tabbs was then placed under arrest for the warrant and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. Through the investigation, officers recovered additional items and information of evidentiary value and identified Tabbs as the suspect who stole the catalytic converters.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, an arrest warrant for Tabbs was obtained, charging him with theft, malicious destruction of property, possession of burglary tools and rogue and vagabond. Tabbs was served with the arrest warrant at the Central Processing Unit, where he was then released on a $1,000 unsecured personal bond.
