Statement From Blair Principal Regarding Bomb Threat Made Against School

Blair Principal Renay Johnson released the following statement regarding a bomb threat that occurred at the school on Monday, October 16:

“Dear Montgomery Blair High School Families,

I hope this letter finds you well. I want to inform you of a serious incident that occurred at our school today. This afternoon, we received an email containing a bomb threat. I want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff is my top priority, and I took immediate action to ensure everyone’s safety. Upon receiving the threat, I immediately contacted the Montgomery County Police, who promptly responded to our school. They thoroughly assessed the situation and provided us with guidance on how to handle this emergency. As a precautionary measure, we implemented a Public Safety Shelter for our school community. School security and Montgomery County Police conducted a thorough sweep of both the stadium and the campus to ensure there were no immediate threats.

To maintain a safe environment, we made the decision to dismiss all students at 2:30 p.m. Ninth period students were directed to the stadium until they could be safely transported to Eastern Middle School where they will board buses to go home. As a result of this threat, all after-school activities and athletics have been canceled this evening until further notice. We are working closely with the authorities to investigate the threat and take appropriate measures to ensure the ongoing safety of our school community.

I understand that events like these can be unsettling, but please be assured that we are doing everything in our power to address the situation and keep our students safe. We will continue to work closely with Montgomery County Police and Montgomery County Public Schools Safety and Security Office to gather more information and take any necessary actions. School counselors, administrators, and staff will be available to meet with students this week as needed.

I want to express my gratitude for your understanding and support during this challenging time. I will keep you updated on any developments regarding this incident. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our main office or your child’s administrator and they will be more than happy to assist you.

Thank you for your cooperation and trust in our school.

Warm regards,
Renay Johnson
Principal”
