Skims, a shapewear brand founded by Kim Kardashian, plans to open its first DMV location after a filing with DC’s Historic Preservation Review Board shows the shop moving in to the two-story, 3,501 SF space at EastBanc Inc.’s 3300 M St. NW in Georgetown (formerly the home of Intermix) according to a Biz Journals report.
SKIMS sells shapewear, undergarments, loungewear, and other apparel in sizes from XXS to 5XL. The company became popular through influencer marketing and Kim Kardashian’s social-media expertise. The company raised a $270 million funding round that valued the brand at $4 billion, The New York Times reported.
Per the BizJournals report, the project has to be approved by the Old Georgetown Board, including “new signage, new storefront doors and the removal of exterior awnings and black metal panels” before it could move forward.
The brand recently announced the launch of SKIMS Mens with a campaign featuring soccer icon, Neymar Jr; 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Nick Bosa; and NBA All-Star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.” “The expansion into the menswear space is a major milestone for the brand, and a testament to SKIMS’ commitment to providing solutions for everybody. To have an icon like Neymar Jr be the face of our launch campaign, along with NBA All-Star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and NFL’s top Defensive Player Nick Bosa, I think speaks volumes to the way SKIMS has evolved into becoming a brand that can provide comfort for all audiences, not just for women. I am incredibly excited about this next chapter for SKIMS and cannot wait for everyone to experience our amazing range of products,” said Kim Kardashian, Founder and Creative Director of SKIMS.
