Earthquake Centered Near Rockville Reported in the Area

Many in the area may have felt a small earthquake (2.3 magnitude, according to the U.S. Geological Survey/USGS) shortly before 1am on Tuesday morning.

The minor earthquake was centered approximately 3km (or between 1.5 and 2 miles) west of Rockville and occurred at a depth of approximately 15.3km (or 9 miles), according to the USGS. There have been various reports of a loud rumble or shaking across Montgomery County and as far out as Frederick and DC that lasted approximately 10 seconds. We have not received any reports of damage at the moment.
