Pencil Prediction for School Closings and Delays on Wednesday, January 17th

Temperatures are in the 20s in most areas and are expected to dip into the 10s or even single digits for some, and feel a lot colder than that wind below zero degree wind chills.

Some schools are completely clear (side walks, bus loop, parking lots) while others still have work left to do. As of 5:45pm, there’s still over 12 hours for all of that to happen, but it’s extremely cold out there. Most major roads are relatively clear with Simone slick patches while side streets and neighborhood roads may still need a little work.

With temperatures where they’re at and where they’re going to be in the morning, and a hard freeze tonight/overnight of anything that did melt during the day today, there will likely be some issues in the morning. Fairfax County has announced a delay, Frederick County was already closed for students, but has announced a delay for staff, Montgomery College has announced a delay, so because of all of those reasons…
