Shortly before 8:30pm on Friday night we received various reports of a loud boom being heard/felt in various parts of the DC Metro Area- from Loudoun County, to Montgomery, and DC. This is being attributed to a house explosion on Silver Ridge Dr. in Sterling VA that has killed one firefighter and injured 11 other people (including 9 firefighters).

According to @DaveStatter, “Radio traffic shows an engine and truck were dispatched at 7:38 p.m. for an outside gas leak on Silver Ridge Drive. At 8:17 p.m., the leak was found in an outside 500-gallon propane tank holding approximately 100 gallons. A hazmat assignment was requested and dispatched. The explosion occurred at 8:24 p.m.”

FOX5’s Shirin Rajaee tweeted, “Loudoun County Fire Asst chief clearly shaken confirms that 1 firefighter has sadly died, 9 others injured. 2 civilians also injured in Sterling House explosion. Extent of their injuries not known.”
