On Thursday, Source of the Spring reported that Starbucks will be closing its location at 915 Ellsworth Dr in Downtown Silver Spring on Saturday, March 30. An employee at the location told Source of the Spring that the closure was due to “safety concerns.”
On Friday, Starbucks released the following statement: “As part of Starbucks standard course of business, we continually evaluate our business to ensure a healthy store portfolio. After careful consideration, we’ve determined it is best to close the store at 915 Ellsworth Drive in Silver Spring. Our last day at this location will be March 30, 2024. All Starbucks partners (employees) working at that store will have the opportunity to transfer to one of our nearby locations in the area. We look forward to continuing to serve the Silver Spring community and encourage our customers to visit us at our other stores in the area.”
Statement from Downtown Silver Spring (Peterson Cos.): “The safety and security of our customers, merchants and their employees is our top priority. Downtown Silver Spring has 24/7 private security patrolling and monitoring our development, with cameras located throughout the property and several businesses utilizing their own private security detail within their establishments.
We work closely with local officials and the Montgomery County Police Department and the 3rd District to enhance public safety measures and support their initiatives to increase the police presence in the area, like their new ‘Drone as First Responder’ program.
We’re sorry to see Starbucks close, we have several prospects in the works for the space. Customers will still be able to get their caffeine fix at Whole Foods Market, Panera and Chick-fil-A, to name a few. We’re pleased to welcome several new tenants in the upcoming months including locally owned Chido’s Tex-Mex Grill and Roaming Rooster as well as Gold’s Gym.”
