Kelly Clarkson has been “highlighting folks from across the country who are stepping up in big ways for their local communities and neighbors.” Her show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, continued its search for 2024 Good Neighbor of the Year with Dana Marlowe, founder of I Support The Girls, a Washington D.C. area-based (Wheaton, MD) non-profit that collects and distributes millions of bras and feminine hygiene products for women in need. Marlowe herself is a resident of Montgomery County.
NBC4 Washington anchor Eun Yang (Paint Branch HS alumna) shines a light on how Dana fills the void in homeless services by providing essential products for women through their eye-popping “vangina.” NBC4 Washington anchor Molette Green joins live from I Support The Girls’ warehouse to speak with the nonprofit’s Director of Affiliate Outreach, and Libby, a woman who received help when she found herself suddenly homeless. The segment is available below with a big surprise for I Support The Girls!
“In 2015, a moment became a movement. And we’ve been flowing strong all day, every day since.” Marlowe writes on her non-profit’s website. “Working hard for the 50% of the population who often suffer most when things go wrong… Because even if all else were equal, biology ensures that it’s not.” I support The Girls has worked with 4,279 Social Service Partner Agencies, 53 Local Affiliates, 1,078 Business & Corporate Partners, and has made 1,478 Media Appearances.
Marlowe says, “No one should have to choose between their next hot meal or a package of maxi pads. And maxi pads should never stand in the way of the next steps in pursuing a better future. But for homeless women and others impacted by other forms of chronic trauma that is simply a reality.” Her appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show can be seen below:
