Roses Department Store, a popular discount shopping destination located at 200 94th St in the property known as the Ocean Plaza Mall, is scheduled to close permanently this June. A representative from the location confirmed the closing timeframe during a phone call on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier this month, Ocean City Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve a preliminary subdivision plan for the 17-acre tract of land currently home to the 94th Street shopping center, per the OC Today Dispatch.

Joe Moore, an attorney for the developers, told the paper, “It’s a concept, I think, that allows us to truly take what may well be the largest single piece of underdeveloped property in Ocean City and bring it into something of which Ocean City is very proud,”

Roses has been a part of the Ocean City community for over 40 years. It is set to be demolished first and replaced by a new ACME Supermarket that would replace the existing location, which is also slated for demolition.

Montgomery County resident Jake Gindin, who frequents Ocean City throughout the year and informed us of the impending closure, told us that Roses has been a reliable place to shop for local and visitors. “If I forget to bring something, I know Roses will have it for an affordable price…and they have almost everything.”

The discount department store chain has nearly 200 locations across 15 states.
