Montgomery College Officially Opens East County Education Center (ECEC)

Monday, April 1st is grand opening day for Montgomery College’s East County Education Center (ECEC) which is bringing the College’s unique services and academic programs to the residents of the East County to expand access in this region and to serve as an anchor institution in the community.

The East County Education Center is a 55,000 square foot, single-story building at 2221 Broadbirch Drive in
Silver Spring that consists of:

  • 11 classrooms for numerous programs
  • 10 labs (6 allied health labs, 3 computer labs, and 1 career training education lab)
  • Raptor Central (a one-stop shop for admissions, enrollment, and visitor services)
  • Community Engagement Center
  • Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Center
  • Learning Center
  • Library
  • Event spaces
  • WorkSource Montgomery
  • Lounges
  • Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) Center
  • Study rooms

Classes: The East County Education Center will offer a few classes during the spring 2024 semester, with a more robust schedule launching in summer and fall 2024.

Spring 2024: These noncredit classes will be offered during the spring 2024 semester:

  • April 1: Citizenship Preparation Program information and registration session. More information.
    • April 8: Citizenship Preparation Program classes begin at ECEC. More information.
  • April 1-2 or April 8-9: Tech Foundations classes run. This is a class for those with no tech background, and students will learn IT fundamentals and about IT career pathways. This is a free class and you can register with the ITI online application.
  • April 15 or April 22: Tech Pathways classes run. Tech Pathways is intended for participants who have some experience in the field of IT and are interested in upskilling or obtaining IT industry certifications. This is a free class and you can register with the ITI online application.
  • April 26: Electricidad Práctica II (HBI 135-2) class begins. This is part of the Hispanic Business Institute and the class is in Spanish. You can register online.

Summer 2024: MC will offer noncredit classes in summer session I, and both credit and noncredit classes in summer session II at the East County Education Center. You can search for classes online and filter to East County Education Center classes by selecting “East County Education Center” from the “Campus” dropdown:
