MoCo Board of Education to Recognize 12 Individuals, Organizations for Distinguished Service


The Montgomery County Board of Education (Board) has announced its recipients for the 27th Annual Awards for Distinguished Service to Public Education. The awards were established by the Board to recognize and show appreciation for exemplary contributions to public education and to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).

Nominations were received from the general community, as well as community organizations, businesses, Board members and MCPS staff. The awardees will be honored during an event on May 7. More information will be shared in the next few weeks. This year’s Distinguished Service Award winners are:

Community Individual

  • Evelyn Chung, MCCPTA Vice President for Education Issues, Curriculum Committee Chair
  • Farzad Makarehchi, Director of Fixed Operations and Recruiting Specialist, DARCARS
  • Melissa Regan, Community Advocate

Community Group

  • Chinese American Parent Association of Montgomery County (CAPA-MC)

Businesses

  • CSIOS Corporation
  • Visit Montgomery

MCPS Staff

  • Ray Gray, security team leader at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
  • E. Kathy Green, coordinator in the Department of Athletics
  • Muncha Leah Rodriguez, special education teacher at Odessa Shannon Middle School
  • Julie Sanders, social studies and Model UN teacher at Gaithersburg Middle School
