Last weekend, Montgomery County resident Ellen Gira was the winner of a Canadian Folk Music Award for “Traditional Album of the Year” along with her duo partner, fiddler, and step dancer Jocelyn Pettit.

The album, “All It Brings,” was also acclaimed as “sublime” in Songlines Magazine, “simply exquisite” in Folk London, and “wonderful, captivating… the most joyous and uplifting album in the entire galaxy” in FolkWales Magazine. The duo has toured nationally and internationally throughout the US, Canada, and the UK. They have also performed for HRH King Charles III, and live on BBC Radio.

While not on tour, Gira lives in Potomac, MD where she teached and performs locally as well. She back to Maryland after living in Scotland for 7 years and tells us she “is excited to become more involved in our wonderful musical community in Montgomery County!”
