MCPS Among Three Maryland Counties to Pilot Girls’ Flag Football Program in Partnership with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) will pilot girls’ flag football during the Fall 2024 season through a partnership with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour.

The partnership will provide grant funding for the pilot program, including equipment and Under Armour uniforms for each of our 25 MCPS high schools. Grant funding will also be provided to cover other expenses, including coaching stipends, transportation, and awards.

MCPS will join Baltimore City Public Schools and Washington County Public Schools as school districts that will pilot girls’ flag football during the Fall 2024 season, joining Frederick County Public Schools, which successfully piloted girls’ flag last year.

Girls’ flag football is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, gaining popularity across the country and being added as an Olympic sport for the 2028 games in Los Angeles. Girls’ flag football will provide additional participation opportunities for our female student-athletes, while bringing a new sport and experience to MCPS Athletics.

Coaching positions will be posted in the near future on MCPS Careers for all 25 high schools. Informational meetings will be held during the month of May and skills clinics will be hosted at MCPS schools in early June. Additional information will be shared in the coming weeks.

“We are excited to be part of the expansion of girls’ flag football in Maryland, as we strive to provide additional participation opportunities for our student-athletes in Montgomery County Public Schools. Girls’ flag continues to thrive across the country and we look forward to partnering with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour to bring this excitement to our 25 high schools in Montgomery County. This initiative is directly aligned with our R.A.I.S.E. core values of equity, access, and spirited competition and will provide a springboard of success for flag football across our county.”
