Quince Orchard High School Hires New Wrestling Coach, Richard Tyler Jr.

The Quince Orchard Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Richard Tyler Jr. as its new Head Varsity Wrestling Coach. Rich Tyler is an accomplished athlete and coach with a distinguished history in high school athletics.

During his time as a student-athlete at Quince Orchard High School, Tyler was a key member of the back-to-back County and Regional champion wrestling teams (1990-1992), competing at 145 pounds under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach, Ron Bowes. He served as captain of the undefeated County/Regional champion wrestling squad during the 1991-1992 season. Additionally, Tyler was a starting wide receiver for the 1991 state championship-winning QO football team under Hall of Fame coach, Ernie Ceccato. Upon graduation, Tyler continued his wrestling journey as a Division 1 scholarship athlete at Morgan State University under the tutelage of the late, great Coach James Phillips.

Following his competitive career, he transitioned into coaching in 2001, holding positions at Carver A&T, Western Tech, Franklin High School, and ultimately his alma mater, Quince Orchard High School, where he has served as assistant coach for the past two seasons. Throughout his coaching career, he has mentored hundreds of wrestlers, guiding them to success at the county, regional, and state levels. Tyler’s coaching accolades also extend to football, where he served as defensive line coach for the 2018 state champion Franklin High School football team.
