Major Lane Closures Across the State of Maryland

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA) has released its major lane closures for this weekend. They can be seen below:

Anne Arundel County

  • MD 175 / MD 295 Interchange Reconstruction Project – Nighttime single-lane closures along MD 175, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., and weekday single lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • I-97 Concrete Pavement Patching Project – Weekend concrete work starting 8 p.m. Friday along southbound I-97 between Benfield Blvd and the Severn Run bridge. Lane(s) will remain closed until concrete cures and are opened for travel. Drivers advised to use MD 2, MD 295 and I-95 as alternate routes. Traffic alert is available here.
  • MD 468 Bridge at Lerch Creek – Temporary traffic signal in place; daytime flagging operation as needed. Learn more here.
  • US 50 Bridges Approaches – Nighttime single lane closures at eastbound US 50 bridge approaches. Traffic alert is available here.

  • US 1 Alternate Northbound (Washington Boulevard) at ramp to US 1 North (Southwest Boulevard) – Temporary 24-hour right lane closure in effect until further notice on this section of US 1 Alt (Washington Blvd.) at the ramp to US 1 (Southwest Blvd.) due to slope washout on roadside following recent heavy rainstorms. The ramp to US 1 North (Southwest Blvd.) remains open.
  • I-695 and I-83 (Baltimore Harrisburg Expressway) Areawide Interstate Pavement Patching – Temporary overnight lane closures and overnight ramp closures/detours scheduled at interchanges on I-695 Inner Loop in Towson area, between Exit 23, I-83 (JFX) and Exit 27, MD 146.  I-83 (BHX) in the Maryland Line area between Exit 36, MD 439 and Exit 37, Freeland Road (MD/PA line) late spring 2024.
  • US 1 (Belair Rd.) from Sunshine Ave./ Bradshaw Rd./Jerusalem Rd. Intersection to Open Bible Way – Resurfacing – Single-lane closures on US 1 Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. through late spring. Learn more here.
  • US 1 (Belair Rd.) from Chapel Road to Ebenezer Road in Perry Hall – Resurfacing – Single-lane closures on US 1 Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Now starting April 30 instead of May 6, through late spring.  Learn more here.
  • MD 139 (Charles Street) City/County line to MD 134 (Bellona Ave.)  – Waterline replacement and roadway improvements. Single lane closures northbound and southbound (with aux/turn lane closures where needed at intersections). Daytime 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday – Friday and overnight 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Sunday – Thursday, through fall 2026.

Calvert County

  • MD 231 (Benedict Bridge) bridge routine maintenance – Scheduled on Sunday, April 28 for the MD 231 bridge. Traffic will be guided using a flagging operation between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m., weather permitting. Traffic alert is available here.

Carroll County

Frederick County

  • MD 77 (Foxville Rd) between Pryor Rd and Park Central Rd – Drainage improvements – Road closure is expected to end by June. The Maryland Environmental Service is replacing a sewer line. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will have access. Traffic alert is available here.
  • US 15 (Catoctin Mountain Highway) at Welty Road – Pipe replacement – Road closure starting Friday, April 26 to 6 a.m. on Monday, April 29. Both directions closed from Welty Road to Steinwehr Ave in PA. Detour uses Old Gettysburg Road/Emmitsburg Road. PennDOT is replacing a pipe across US 15. Their press release can be found here.

Harford County

  • US 40 (Pulaski Highway) between the Baltimore/Harford County line (Little Gunpowder Falls) and MD 152 (Mountain Road/Magnolia Road) – Paving – Weekdays, single lane closures 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through early May. Traffic alert is available here.
  • US 1 Business (Conowingo Road) from Moores Mill Rd. to US 1 Bypass – Resurfacing and safety improvements – Daytime single lane closure 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday – Friday and overnight single lane closures 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday – Thursday through 2025. Traffic alert is available here.

Montgomery County

  • MD 586 (Veirs Mill Road) between Newport Mill Rd and MD 28 (First Street) – Resurfacing – Single-lane closures and lane shifts overnight, Sundays through Thursdays, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic alert available here.

Prince George’s County

  • MD 704 from Greenleaf Road to Ardwick Ardmore Road – Resurfacing – Single-lane and ramp closures overnight, Sundays through Thursdays, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic alert is available here.
  • MD 5 from Old Branch Avenue to Curtis Drive – Resurfacing – Single-lane closures overnight, Sundays through Thursdays, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Traffic alert is available here.

Washington County

  • I-68 at Creek Road – Bridge replacement work – Single right lane closures eastbound and westbound will be continuous throughout the duration of the project.  For additional information, the traffic alert is available here​.
