The Gaithersburg Department of Public Works is replacing the playground at Morris Park, 520 Summit Hall Road, due to the playground equipment at Morris Park reaching the end of its useful service life after 20 years of use.  Due to its age, condition and safety considerations, it was scheduled for replacement in the FY 23 Budget (progress pictures below, courtesy of the City of Gaithersburg).

The State of Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources Community Parks & Playgrounds Program have provided funds for this project via a grant. The first phase of the replacement closed the playground to remove all the old playground equipment and to prepare the site to rough grade conditions.  It was performed by City Staff and lasted approximately three weeks.

Immediately following the completion of the first phase, the second phase began with the Contractor mobilizing to the site and preparing the site to final grade, installing all the new playground equipment,  and now installing borders and playground safety surfacing.  This second phase will last approximately 3 three weeks and the playground should reopen on schedule on May 15th.
