Maryland Woman Named First Ever “Golden Bachelorette”

Montgomery County, MD’s very own Joan Vassos has been named as the first ever leading lady of “The Golden Bachelorette,” which premieres on ABC this fall.

The initial show, The Golden Bachelor, featured bachelor Gerry searching for love. It seemed to happen quickly when Rockville, MD’s very own Joan Vassos stole his heart during her time on the show. Vassos’ time was cut short when she made the decision to return home and be with her daughter, who was having a tough time following a difficult pregnancy.

After winning an early episode’s talent show with a touching poem, and a one-on-one date with Gerry (the Golden Bachelor), she became a frontrunner in the competition. Sadly, that’s when she had to make the difficult decision to return home, but many feel that Joan would be the perfect Golden Bachelorette.

While fans have clamored for many different contestants to return as ABC’s first Golden Bachelorette, it’s Vassos’ early departure that left many wondering what could have been. “She had that competition wrapped up so early, I was so sad to see her go” commented a reader seconds after she announced she’d be returning home during The Golden Bachelor.

Joan- a “private school administrator” from Rockville, Maryland. More on Joan, per “Golden Bachelor” below:

“Joan is really something special. She has four kids and two grandkids and is looking for love again after losing her husband of 32 years to pancreatic cancer. Joan is proud of herself for starting a new career in this chapter of life and for how resilient she’s been through many unexpected life changes. When she’s not working, Joan loves listening to Elton John, hanging with her dog, and cooking a delicious meal. Joan describes herself as a loving mother and a hard worker who would love to find someone with whom to enjoy life. She’s happiest when she’s at the beach with her family and is looking for a family man with whom to blend her life. Joan is a total catch, and we think Gerry will have no problem seeing it too. Fun Facts:

  •  Joan loves dancing after a couple glasses of wine.
  •  Joan enjoys historical museums.
  •  Joan’s favorite food is a big, juicy burger!”
