Tuan Vo is the owner of Phowheels. He was born and raised in Montgomery County, attending White Oak Middle School and Springbrook High School, and currently lives in Burtonsville. He will be bringing the DMV’s first drive-thru Vietnamese restaurant to Burtonsville Crossing in the late fall.
Vo graduated from Springbrook High School in 2008. Four years later, in 2012, he was introduced to Phowheels when he first tried the food that was available at the food truck. The owner at the time, who is now his friend and business partner, later gave Vo the opportunity to buy the business and in 2017 he took the chance and jumped right into the kitchen with his family- taking over the food truck.
“We started to take Phowheels all over the DMV, especially Montgomery County being that’s where we’re from. Serving up innovative Vietnamese food such as our infamous Vietnamese pork belly tacos, Vietnamese birria aka Bo khirria, pho, banh mi on a croissant and a lot of cool specials.” Vo tells us.
Phowheels opened its first store last October in Arlington, VA, being given the opportunity by JBG Smith to expand their menu and business at the water park in National Landing. Vo says, “We wanted to expand our business into Maryland and specifically Montgomery County. We saw EDENS opening up a brand new shopping center in Burtonsville and this was the perfect opportunity for me to really be a part of the Burtonsville community where I live!”
EDENS gave Phowheels the opportunity to partner up with them to open up a dine-in and drive-thru, which Vo says is the first drive-thru in the DMV serving Vietnamese cuisine. “Now we’re looking forward to serving the Burtonsville community and all of the surrounding communities around us! We look forward to seeing all of our phowheelers in late fall! Thank you for taking the time to read my story!”
