Karaoke Machine Battery Likely to Blame for Germantown Fire Tuesday Night That Caused $100K in Damage

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene of a fire on the first floor of a four-story apartment building at 12600 Gray Eagle Court off of Circle Gate Drive in Germantown shortly after 8pm.

Affording to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire originated in the kitchen of the apartment and the single occupant was able to get out safely. Responding crews were able to extinguish the fire and check for extension while other residents were evacuated due to smoke.

In an update shortly before 10pm, Piringer wrote that the most likely cause of the fire was the lithium battery associated with a karaoke machine in the apartment. There was approximately $100K in damage, including $25K to structure and $75k to contents. One person has been displaced.
