Renovated park features amenities for community members of all ages
Join Montgomery Parks for a free, family-friendly celebration of the newly renovated Columbia Local Park in Burtonsville. The event will feature activities to highlight the improvements to the park.
The renovation of Columbia Local Park repurposes a little-used paved area into an attractive recreation area featuring fourdedicated pickleball courts, a tennis court with pickleball overlay lines, and a soccer court. Players can use a nearby plaza with seating and charging stations while they wait their turn on the courts.
“We are so excited to turn excess, unused pavement into usable park amenities,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks. “Park renovations like this help us make the best use of the parkland we have, and now residents will be able to enjoy more areas of this park for playing sports and spending time with friends.”
The renovation also includes a new parking lot with increased accessibility and two ADA-compliant parking spaces. Visitors will also delight in a water fountain with a bottle filler and a dog bowl, a renovated shelter with picnic tables and a grill, and new walkway connections to the adjacent neighborhood.
Columbia Local Park is next door to the Marilyn J. PraisnerCommunity Recreation Center and the Praisner Library, in the Upper Paint Branch Special Protection Area. The area protects a significant amount of forested land for watershed management.
