According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Debbie Dwyer sentenced defendant, Michael Boyd Jr., 40, of Olney, to 90 years in prison suspend all but 55 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release.
Boyd was convicted by a jury on April 4, 2024, on two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony for a shooting outside of the Sole D’Italia restaurant in the 14300 block of Layhill Road in Silver Spring in July 2023. Four people were shot, including the defendant. An additional victim was injured by bullet fragments.
Assistant State’s Attorneys Gabriel Carrera and Jennifer Harrison prosecuted this case.
“We often hear from community members who are sick of this sort of gratuitous violence. The judge echoed those sentiments today. We are thankful for the message this sentence sends, that anyone who engages in this course of conduct will face serious consequences,” said State’s Attorney John McCarthy.”
