Man Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison for Attempted Murder Caught on Camera

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Durke Thompson sentenced defendant, Sorie Mansaray, 20, of unknown address, to 30 years in prison suspend all but 12 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release.”

“Mansaray was convicted by a jury on April 18, 2024, on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of firearm in commission of a crime of violence, possession of a regulated firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a regulated firearm by a person under 21 years of age.

On July 12, 2022, Mansaray shot at a vehicle that had just pulled onto the 11000 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, hitting, and wounding a passenger in the car. The victim was treated at a local hospital for a gunshot wound and survived. It is believed the defendant and victim were previously unknown to each other but did encounter one another at the Dash In gas station in the minutes before the shooting. When the vehicle the victim was riding in pulled out of the parking lot, the defendant walked up next to a Metro bus stop and fired as the car passed by. The incident was captured by surveillance cameras.

“The shooting occurred during daylight hours, along one of our busiest roads in Montgomery County. This sort of reckless violence in our community is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it,” said State’s Attorney John McCarthy.

Assistant State’s Attorneys Peter Larson and Kimberly Cissel prosecuted this case.”
